Asia > Northeast Asia > Thailand

Ρανόνγκ, Νότια Ταϊλάνδη

Southern Thailand is a distinct region of Thailand, connected with the Central region by the narrow Kra Isthmus.

Rich in cultural diversity, the region stretches from just south of Bangkok down to the Malaysian border, and includes many of Thailand's famous resources in both seaboard oriented toward the west of the Sea of Andaman, and in Gulf oriented toward southern the east of the coast of Thailand. Southern Thailand is home to most of Thailand’s Muslims and Islamic influence has helped mold the region into probably the most unique in the kingdom.

Southern Thailand is probably the most diverse region in the kingdom. It is a place of dense forests, imposing mountains and deep caves. It is also a place of rivers, waterfalls and lakes. Most of all it is home to some of the world’s most glorious islands and beaches.
